It's main production it is still the "Montecristi hats", commonly known internationally as the "Panamá Hats". The number of craftsmen in the village is declining. Competition from China and the Ecuadorian city of Cuenca that have bigger production and cheaper prices, make hard to make a living to the craftsmen of Pile.
