A gull at Berlenga island, a marine reserve and classified by the Council of Europe as a "Biosphere Reserve", is now becoming an environmentally sustainable island from power generation, water, wastewater and solid waste treatment/recycle to reducing pollution at the source. This portuguese atlantic archipelago consists of a large island, Berlenga Grande, rose granite made, and some small islands and rocks (Estelas and Farilhões), which are situated some 15 km off the headland of Cabo Carvoeiro to the north-west of Peniche, which is about 100 km north of Lisbon .PHOTO PAULO CUNHA/4SEE
