In 25 of April 2012, day commemorating 38 years from the Carnation Revolution, a military coup that changed the Portuguese regime from an authoritarian dictatorship into a democracy, after a demonstration in front of the city hall, several groups of squatters and political activist from different left wing sections, like anarchist, Maoist and communist reoccupied the school with the help of neighbors. The protagonist of this work it is, at the same time, the main absent: the man.<br />
The man in his social and communal dimension.<br />
The contexts designed and arranged to encourage communication, play, participation, respect, sharing, skills development, become no  - places unable to perform their function. <br />
The silent nature appears the only creature really and irreducibly faithful to the vocation involved in its essence.<br />
Their state of neglect, decay times, recalls the waiver insane man / citizen called, by its nature, to express themselves and build.<br />
The only faces represented are those mediated by the eye of the artist: a film, a stone statue .. as if to say that the true humanity still exists only in the eyes of those who seek beauty.

For years the Mafalala district has been forgotten but now a NGO made of young students of the university of Maputo and named Iverca is trying to re-establish the old glory of the district. They are organized turistic tours trought the district to show to the foreign visitors the life in the district and to explain the importance of this place. The NGO organize one time per year the Mafalala Festival, a festival where local food is sold but specially where the custumers can listen jazz and blues bands playing.

  • Students rush out of school and down the mountain as their school day comes to an end high on the mountain above Carrefour, Haiti.  The school features all grades from preschool to 8th grade.  The student body numbers over 430.  Haiti has no public school system so families are forced to pay for their children to go to school, excluding the vast majority of the populations children.

  • Youngsters from the surrounding countryside around Carrefour gather in front of the Saint Roch clinic to see if they will be sponsored by foster parents back in the US, who for approximately $25/month will send the youngsters through school.  With no public education, this is the only way that the children of the mountain will get schooling.

  • The shanty towns crawl up the sides of the mountain from Carrefour down below.  The scenery changes as you head farther up the mountain with the population becoming more hidden in the foliage in the mountain.
